My little brother has been born on 23 July, way ahead of his actual due date of August 9. Since his arrival back home, Mummy and Papa have been relieved that I have not shown much signs of jealousy, but instead rush to pat/sayang him whenever he cries. I find him very cute, and also try to kiss him whenever he is being carried near me :) I also beg to carry him but so far have only been allowed to do so while sitting on the sofa.

But I do find it hard to cope with the less attention from Mummy since Mummy is always feeding 4D (yes that's his nickname.. Papa also calls him DF - short for Ding4 Fa1 - as for why, pls direct all questions to my Papa). On a few occasions, Mummy heard me muttering to myself "Nobody play/read with Yi3 Yi3" and saying in Chinese "Nainai/Mummy bu4 yao4 yi3 yi3 le4". Those sentences worked wonders cos for some reason, Mummy immediately flew over to my side and left didi to nai nai to take care :)

Toto is getting more and more chatty by the day.. loads of never ending questions, some of which are really quite hard to answer! And it's now v fun to converse with her, cos I get more than just yes/no/two/three word answers!

One memorable conversation which took place abt 1 mth ago, while i was reading a chinese book which she has read many times with my in laws, but which I have never read -

Me : Is this dog ABC (name in chinese)?
Toto : Nooooo *wags index finger at me* Mummy, not correct! That is XYZ (another chinese name). Yi2 Yi2 laugh at Mummy.. HA HA HA *proceeds to laugh at me with her mouth wide open*

The other conversation happened just today -

Toto : Mummy, itchy. poke. poke. *points at her calf where there is a fresh mozzie bite*
Me : Oh dear, the mosquito bit you again?
Toto : Naughty mosquito! Mosquito dont bite yi2 yi2. Go away! Dont come back!

She has also progressed to the rather exasperating stage where she builds qns on top of answers I have given.. eg...

Toto : Where are we going?
Me : Going to gong gong ma ma's house
Toto : Where is Gong gong ma ma's house?
Me : That's at Lorong H** S**
Toto : Where is Lorong H** S**?
Me : *getting exasperated* Far away..
Toto : Where is far away?
Me : It's a place in Singapore.. far from where we stay.
Toto : Where is Singapore?
Me : *losing it slightly* In South East Asia
Toto : Where is South East Asia?
Me : Oh look look.. there's a green man/red man there!! *using distraction tactic in a desperate but successful attempt to end the nonstop questioning..*

I wonder what else will come... :)

I am 2 years old - celebrations part II

Today Mummy and papa brought me out to celebrate my actual birthday.

First we went to Macdonalds for my favorite hotcakes breakfast! Mummy was quite proud of me as I didnt throw any tantrums when told that I cant eat hashbrowns and iced milo.. and cld even reply that I was sick and having cough when asked why mummy didnt let me eat those.

Next stop, we went to Swensens at Tampines mall for the 1 for 1 lunch! I loved the chicken with mixed peppers and kept asking for more. was really dismayed when papa finished everything and I had no more!Mummy was also very gek, as she did not bring along my birth cert to prove that it was my birthday today! hence, I did not get to eat my free bday ice cream :(

After that, we went to Simei Eastpoint mall to shop shop.. Papa meant to bring me there as he remembered that there was a large pet shop there.. but too bad, think cos of poor economy, the shop has downsized! I still got to see many cute puppies, hamsters, and fishes so it was still a worthwhile trip!

Last stop of the day was the Botanic Gardens. It is one of my favorite places to go as I can feed fishes as well as pigeons there! Really had a whale of a time! Mummy was a lot more terrified of the pigeons than I was as they were not afraid of pp and kept coming very very close! I even got pecked a few times by the pigeons as I was very slow in putting down the fish food (yes, the pigeons love to eat the fish food!) heheheh :)

Got to cut cake a 2nd time! This time it was a Barney cake from Prima Deli!

See? I cld barely contain my glee at seeing the cake and kept trying to touch the Barney characters! Mummy had to fend me off while trying to put the candles on the cake.

I am 2 years old - celebration part I

I got to cut cake twice to celebrate my birthday! :) Once at my Ma2 Ma4's house, another at our own home. Loved my presents too! Got a Little Tikes slide from Ma2 Ma4, a stuffed Barney toy from jiu jiu, red packets from Gong gong, Ma Ma and Jiu Jiu, a kitchen set and playfood from Papa and Mummy, a set of walking ducks from Nai nai and ye ye as well as a barking toy dog from Gugu and gu zhang, who couldnt come for the bday celebrations as Gugu has just delivered my little cousin Kai Qi on 12 June!! TOo bad I cant visit her yet, as I am still recovering from a bad cough :(

Milestones at 23 mths

Realised that I've been really bad at updating toto's blog after zy nagged at me the other day - and was horrified to find that my last update was in Feb!! gosh.. but i've got a real gd excuse :P No 2's on the way and due on Aug 9 2009, and we found out abt 1.5 mths ago that it's a boy :) Am certainly not sexist, but it's good to have 1 of each gender isnt it? Only concern is that the 2 kids wont be too close cos 1's a boy and the other's a girl...

Since this blog is all abt capturing Toto's milestones ( yeap.. so that we can have something to compare 4D's development to.. and STRESS HIM MORE hyak hyak hyak... ), thought it's high time to note down the things toto can and cant do at the grand age of 23 mths..

She:
- cant feed herself very well still.. might be related to not liking to eat her main meals too much. The only meal she can feed well is Macdonald's hotcakes!! THAT she finishes quickly and without any mess!
- is not toilet trained (wrt peeing)... is pretty much toilet trained since abt 20 mths old for poo bzness (usually poos in toilet bowl on kiddy seat abt 95% of the time, unless she's got a bout of diarrhea). In fact she doesnt even wanna go in her diaper anymore, and wld rather hold it in until she gets home when we go out!

She can :
- speak in sentences of up to 8-9 words in Mandarin (thanks to my in laws)
- speak in 3-4 word sentences in English (hangs head in guilt.. mummy is the only one speaking English to her in the house, and hence responsible for her slower development in English)
- knows the names of most animals in English and chinese
- Can count from 1-20 in English, 1-30 in Mandarin, 1-20 in teochew, 1-10 in Jap
- knows the value of numbers and can count meaningfully up till abt 10... anymore than that and she cant keep track of the items she's already counted
- knows her A-Zs very well and can give me eg of words starting with each letter, eg A for apple, B for ball/balloon, C for cat, P for Peter/Pat *characters in her current fav series of Ladybird books Peter and Jane, etc...
- able to read a few words in her favorite books.. eg include Peter, jane, and, is, this, tree, toy, shop, book, ball, sweets, dog, Pat, water (recent achievement at abt 22.5mths)
- able to read MANY chinese words (dont even know how to list.... and one of the words she can read, I cld not even read myself.. of cos that's cos my chinese is LOUSY)
- has learnt to talk nonsense and disturb pp.. more egs later...
- asks questions - why, what is this, what are you doing (this qn usually targetted at her fav toy dog)
- mimics whatever we say
- gives nicknames to weird inanimate objects like pens/markers
- has average writing abilities - can trace dot to dot pictures, trace numbers on her own - only 1 and 2, draw circles and straight lines (recent achievement at 23 mths)
- runs and jumps on her own now.
- able to climb up stairs but needs to hold on to a railing
- knows her colours since abt 18 mths.. eg red,blue, yellow, green, purple, pink, orange, brown, black, white
-shows affection very easily - climbs on my lap for hugs and kisses me very frequently for no reason, and without being asked to (heart melt.. hehe.. wonder if boys will be like this too?)

She is also getting very very cheeky and mischievous recently.. has taken to targetting my FIL and says naughty things like "bu yao ye ye zuo zhe li", " bu yao yeye qian1 shou3", and when asked to kiss my FIl, she wld go ard and kiss everyone except him!! so odd, cos both my ILs love her lots and dote on her like crazy!

When asked questions or to do something, Toto has started to respond by making cheeky faces at me, or jabbering at me in baby talk while grinning away all the time (intentionally, as she is able to answer questions with short replies for quite a while now). when she mispronounces something and i correct her, she wld keep on repeating the word the original wrong way.. and its worse when I look exasperated/amused! argh... that's the terrible twos for you!

Toto has also started to show some signs of jealousy towards her little bro.. although she does kiss my tummy of her own accord now and then, she seems to know that this little one will take time and attn away from her!

Recent eg of conversations between zy and her :

ZY : yao4 bu4 yao4 ba3 toto mai4 diao4 ah1?
toto : bu2 yao4
ZY : yao4 bu4 yao4 ba3 Biao3 mei4 (my sil is expecting a little girl) mai4 diao4 ah1?
toto : bu2 yao4. Ba3 didi mai4 diao4 (sell didi) ...

Eg of conversation between myself and toto yesterday :

Toto : (hugging a care bear stuff toy) Mummy hug care bear (then offers the toy to me to hug)
Me : Mummy hug care bear, and hug toto too ok?
Toto : Mummy hug toto, mummy hug care bear, mummy dont hug didi (??? where did that come from???)

Really hope its just a phase... * keep fingers crossed*

Papa is always busy at work.. but on weekends, he has a no work policy so that he can spend time... sleeping at home, and playing with me occasionally. Mummy sometimes scolds Papa for teaching me nonsense, but I find him quite entertaining actually leh...

Here is a recent eg of what Papa added as "enrichment lessons" when Mummy was telling me the ABCs... do you think he should continue teaching me somemore?

Mummy speaks : Toto pls dont grow up so fast...

The past week, Toto has amazed me with her social and verbal developments. Verbally, she is officially a parrot now, and surprises me everyday with new phrases and songs that I never expected her to pick up. To date, she can sing (tunelessly though) a few songs - eg Ba ba black sheep, twinkle twinkle little star (first 2 lines), 2 little tigers (in chinese - liang2 zhi1 lao2 hu3), the barney i-love-u song, and some chinese children songs (wa2 wa2 guo3 and wo shi yi ge da ping guo). Unfortunately, she is super camera shy and zips up the mo i whip out the camcorder! argh...

Thanks to Zy's parents, her chinese is super polished now too, and she can rattle off the San1 Zi4 Jing1 pretty much effortlessly.. the amount she knows far surpasses what I know (though that's no surprise given that my chinese is SHITE). Thankfully, her english isnt too backward either, and she is now speaking in short 4-5 word sentences for both english and chinese.

Recently, she has also started to react emotionally to certain stories which she has known for ages. Eg, when Zy's mum read her Hansel and Gretel 2 days ago, she actually cried at the part where Hansel and Gretel's woodcutter dad left them behind in the woods, and then started wailing for papa and mummy.. face was flooded with tears apparently.

On a separate occasion, Zy's father was telling her the story of a fillial daughter who helped to cover her elderly mother with a blanket when she fell asleep in a chair. He pointed to the picture of the white haired lady, and said that mummy will become like this one day and that she has to take care of mummy when that day comes. To his shock, when he next looked at her, tears were streaming down her face and she just kept pointing at the elderly lady and going mummy... mummy... when i came home that day, she raced to the door and flung herself to me for the rest of the day until I reassured her that my hair was black, not white like the elderly mother in the picture book and that mummy is not going to be old any time soon. only then did she stop crying every time she looked at that picture. Not sure why she reacted so strongly to this picture book as we have not explained what the consequences of being old are (ie death, etc).

She is also growing up to be very affectionate, and will turn to me very often without prompting, plant a big wet kiss on my cheek or hug me and say I LOVE YOU MUMMY. aww... at night before she sleeps, she also makes it a point to kiss my tummy (yes, to those who do not know yet, #2 is along the way now and due in Aug) and say Goodnight baby, i love you..

**Afternote - I am so afraid I will forget all these little stories as more things happen.. and the blog is a wonderful way for me to jot down my thoughts and feelings at each point of her life. Wish there is a way to freeze each moment and video everything down.

papa witnessed me patting this gentle old fellow's head.. unfortunately I wasnt exactly very gentle. Apparently, it was more like thumping that i did :P thankfully my hand still remains firmly attached to my arm now. Must learn to be as forgiving and patient as brown doggy here.

Gareth's full month party

Today we attended Mummy's cousin's baby boy Gareth's full month party at Boon Lay. Prior to today, mummy and ma2 ma4 were both so worried I would freak and cry buckets again like I always did whenever I met mummy's extended family. So this time, I was psychoed for an entire week, that I was not to cry, and to say hello and smile to everybody. I was even showed pictures of the extended family.. that's how desperate mummy and ma2 ma4 were :)

Thankfully, with all the training, i didnt disgrace mummy after all! After the initial clinging onto mummy, I was soon too busy looking at adorable baby Gareth to be scared of Grandaunts/Granduncles. Towards the end of the lunch, I was virtually best friends with Biao Ee (Mummy's cousin Audrey) cos she was helping feed (bribe) me with raisins while mummy was eating her lunch.

After the full month, I also got to play at the playground! But for a mere 5 minutes only *pout* Gong gong is paranoid I will pick up weird germs.... shhh... he doesnt know I spend half an hour at the playground EVERY morning. hehe :)

Ang Pao pls??

Mummy has been trying to teach me to say Happy new yr complete with hand actions since last Sunday but I have refused to cooperate and just ignores her everytime she tries to teach me. Last evening however, when she came back from work, I decided to surprise mummy by saying Happy New Year and did the gong xi gong xi action. Mummy was so delighted!

I gave her a bigger surprise later when I chimed Happy New Year at her again, and followed up with "ang pau??" soon after I said Happy new Year! Ye ye, nai nai and mummy were hysterical.. and thot I must have picked up the ang pau phrase cos mummy has been telling me that I have to wish pp happy new year before I can get the ang pau!

I have also been pretty much a parrot recently, mimicking whatever I hear pp saying around me. 2 days ago, mummy was chatting with gu1 gu1 when she let slip an Oh my god.. before she knew it, I was chiming ohmigodohmigod.. mummy immediately had a knee jerk reaction where she said Oh S**T... luckily i was too busy chanting ohmigod and didnt catch on to the other phrase.. phew for mummy hehe.. Mummy vows to watch her language even more closely in front of me now. :P

I also went for my first LNT class (proper one, not trial) yesterday. Yeye and nai nai brought me and reported that I enjoyed the class and paid attention about 90% of the time and didnt run around! I also surprised sinseh at the end of the class when i chimed sayonara in response to her own goodbyes! However, I stubbornly refused to repeat performance more than once at home to Mummy's chagrin!

Firefly tour!

Mummy has not been blogging for ages cos she's been busy with many things at work, and she has also not been well recently. Poor mummy.. luckily she has me to always sayang her tummy, and kiss her better heh :)

Today though, papa and mummy found energy to bring me for a 1D Firefly tour to nearby Malaysia! To make things more fun, mummy also chioed her forum mummies, Aunty Rina and her hb Uncle Deyan and Zevon didi, as well as Aunty Eileen and Roxanne meimei. We are all June/July babies, and the last time we played together was when we were abt 13 mths old! So our parents decided it would be fun for yet another get-together!

The day started at an ungodly hour of 645am. Mummy had to carry me up in my sleep but the moment I felt her lifting me, I woke up, sensing that the day was not gonna be just another boring saturday where mummy went to work! Luckily I was pretty well behaved for the day, and slept and ate when I should.

Next stop was at some herb farm, which unfortunately none of us showed any interest in, including the mummies and papas! Instead, the 3 of us bubs were more than happy to just hang out at a shady porch, playing until it was time to reboard the bus!

Shrieking in joy... not sure at what though...

I learnt how to bai bai properly (including bowing and all) today. See how qian3 cheng2 I am!

Next stop, Desaru beach! I was sleeping on the bus, but papa bochup and just carried me down. Luckily I woke up really quickly, so didnt miss this picturesque and windy spot!

We then visited the Desaru Fruit Farm and petting zoo next. A pity Zevon didi and Roxanne meimei were KOed on the coach. At the fruit farm, we saw durian trees, dragon fruit plants, papaya trees and banana trees! But the place that excited me the most was the petting zoo..papa felt it was more fun than the zoo cos there were monkeys, snakes, ostriches, goats (lots of them, and greedy ones too!), rabbits, crocodiles, chickens, ducklings, turkeys and a lot more! I even got to pet a rabbit (to mummy's dismay.. she went at me with dettol antiseptic handrub the moment i was done).

Last stop was of cos the highlight of the day.. the firefly cruise! To mummy's dismay, the boat used was sampan like.. and to quote papa, it was like we were gonna tou1 du4 (= illegally enter another country). We were also given life jackets that of cos were spoilt. Not a very reassuring experience for mummy. But all in all, the experience was magical, and even the babes could see the dozens and hundreds of stars glittering in the sky above! Guess the fireflies were a bit harder for the little ones to appreciate cos it looked just like christmas lights. The mummies and papas seemed mystified enough tho, and at one point, I think I heard mummy commenting to papa - this would really be romantic, if not for her (gestured to me). HUMPH.

The day ended at abt 1130pm, and I was fast asleep by the time we got home. Nevertheless, it was a really fun day, and papa is busily trying to think of where else we can go!

Aneo Ha Se Yo! Part II

Now that Mummy has been recharged after 2 days at work (YES you read correctly.. after being thoroughly tortured by me for the past 1 week in Korea, mummy actually finds going back to work extremely relaxing and restful! But dont count on that to last cos mummy always tells me her ultimate dream is to be a SAHM with a maid... hmm dont think that's gonna come true anytime leh mummy), its time to share more pictures and stories about my first (and last, or so mummy says) trip to korea!

DAY ONE
We started off the trip by taking a night flight. The flight was to depart Sg at 2250hr, and reach Seoul at 6am (local time, which is 1 hr ahead of Sg time).

To take a photo, all I have to do is peer thru the eye piece with one eye...

On board and asleep in my bassinet - papa and mummy are smiling so happily cos they thot I would sleep the whole way cos I slept only 30min in the day... if only they knew ....

See how my legs had to be propped up on a cushion? that's cos mummy and papa were too giam to buy me a proper seat and chose to stuff me into a bassinet that is 5cm shorter than i am!

No more pictures of me on the plane cos I decided to wake up barely 15min after take off.. and despite mummy's best efforts to give me as comfy a bed as possible (including sitting on the floor so I cld stretch out over 2 seats), I just couldnt get to sleep well! woke up every 15min to cry and scream my lungs out. For the entire 6 hrs! needless to say, mummy (and the rest of the plane) didnt get much sleep that night.

DAY TWO
Despite not sleeping well the whole night, the tour started the moment we disembarked from the plane. As if one plane ride wasnt enough, we had to transfer to a domestic flight to jeju once we landed at seoul. Of course, I wasnt too happy and did not hesitate to show my displeasure! Luckily, I was better behaved during the domestic flight as I was too exhausted, and managed to KO for an hour before we landed.

Mummy speaks - Recollections...

I was just searching through the folder of pictures to look for new pics to post on toto's blog, when I chanced upon a small folder tucked away in some obscure place. These were pictures taken by my wonderful old brother as well as my cousin.

Cant resist posting the following pic taken when my baby was 5 mths old - really tickled me pink cos toto's face actually looks bigger than mummy's?!!?? MIL and FIL had a really good laugh too. MIL also commented that toto has really slimmed down a lot recently. Hmm... kinda miss the times when toto was so fat and just so huggable!

Must also post a recent pic of her taken in her bath tub just for comparison! :P

My dearest darling.. you will always be the love of my life (aside from your papa of cos).. whether you are fat and not very mobile (to quote a friend of mine), or not so fat and very mobile. MUACK!

Hahahaha the title must have taken u by surprise! that's mummy's lousy translation of one of the chinese poems i kinda know - the chuang qian ming yue guang one!

To date, at the grand old age of 16 mths, I can complete the following 5 chinese poems with the correct word(in bold) at the end of each verse. All thanks to papa and yeye's drilling!

Aneo ha se yo! Part 1

Mummy and papa brought me on a 8D/6N tour to korea/jeju from 6 oct - 13 oct! Because they were worried about the language barrier, they took up a group tour together with yeye and nai nai.

Alphabet mania!

Recently, I have been crazy about books and flash cards. No longer show much interest in my toys, except when it comes to 'feeding' my toy elephant, dog, giraffe and lion! I like to sit and flip thru the books, and ask yeye or mummy by pointing when I dont understand some pictures or letters.

Now, I can say quite a few alphabets when shown the letters either on books, cards, newspapers or signs along the road - A,C,M,O,R,S,W,X. Can also recognise majority of the remaining alphabets by pointing to the correct one when asked.

Yeye finds it very amusing to bring me to the back of the ABC market, and asking me to read simple signs on the electric or water meter such as SR 10, M 11, etc.. meaningless yes, but think they find it funny to hear me go M Yi1 Yi1 like I really knew how to read! hahaha :) so bo liao..

Not bad for a 15 mth old toddler huh?

Mummy's scared that I am displaying OCD traits!!why?? 2 incidents...

Incident No 1

Went to Ma2 Ma4's house yesterday as usual. Papa and mummy left me there in the afternoon while they went to sort out the new kallang flat, and when they came back, Ma2 Ma4 reported that I had been drawing and playing with pens, when suddenly, I accidentally drew a line on my leg. I didnt like it too much, and according to ma2 Ma4, my face immediately change. But cos I was not at home, I didnt cry and once ma2 ma4 clean my leg, I was ok already.

Incident No 2

Mummy was showing me my favorite pamphlet - the OCBC one with pictures of granny, grandpas, babies, etc.. when she decided to be funny and test out something nai nai told her a few wks ago. She turn to the page with the granny and grandpa, and showed me the spot on their hair which had torn off and asked me : How come like this?? I look at it for abt 30 sec, then look at mummy, and started to CRY like I just fell down and knock my head! Mummy was so shocked at my reaction she quickly promise to find me a new one and I immediately stop crying!

Cause for alarm?? Maybe I just like things neat and tidy! hehe.. :)

Went cycling at ECP with papa and mummy today! Got a bit scared at first cos its my first time, but after a while, warmed up enough to laugh and enjoy the ride, and even relaxed enough to fall asleep!

Mummy and papa have been on leave the whole week. TOday, they brought me for a family outing to the Singapore FLyer. The original plan was to go in the evening, so that we could see both the day scenery, and also catch the night views! of cos, things didnt work out quite so well, as it started to pour shortly after our flight 'took off'!

The rain didnt dampen my moods as I wasnt that interested in the scenery, I was a lot more captivated by another 15mth old little girl who was also in the same capsule! Remember my fetish for chasing little friends my age? Hehehe :)

I am officially a TODDLER!!! yay yay yay!! As of these few days, my main mode of transport ard the house has been MY LEGS!! yeap! not my knees and hands, but my legs! Not too bad considering that mummy has been going on and on about how retarded I am wrt motor milestones since I only started crawling properly at 12 mths! :)

Now, I dont even like both my hands to be held.. if mummy asks nicely, I might allow her to hold one hand when we are out. (Note from mummy : Toto only lets me hold her hands if I threaten to carry her when she insists on walking alone!)

When in shopping centres, I like to celebrate my new found independence by making bee lines for other kiddos wandering around and trying to hug and kiss them (YES, I am THAT friendly!!), and chasing them in disappointment when they run off in fright due to my overzealous enthusiasm! Mummy, papa, yeye and nai nai dunno to be happy that I am such a gregarious outgoing child, or to be worried that I just might be a little too hyper!

I got to take my first kiddy ride when I was about 6 mths old and just learnt to sit. Frankly, it was a waste of money cos 1) I cant recall a damn thing 2) I cried to be out within half a min according to mummy!

Recently, i've learnt to appreciate such rides a lot more.. so much so that i insist on sitting on the ride whenever we walk past one in the shopping centre! And no... sitting in it is not enough, it has to be moving, and with music blasting! I even know where the coin slot is, and will signal mummy to quickly put in the coin for the fun to start! Mummy has warned yeye and nai nai to limit such rides so that I dont start taking this for granted!

In the last 1 wk, I've gone to gogobambini at dempsey road not once, but twice!! Last saturday, Mummy decided to bring me for a baby outing with Zevon didi, Roxanne mei mei and Kayden didi. It was so fun although the place was very very crowded! Mummy and Aunty Rina were very amused to see us crawling and toddling around together, and as the saying goes, 'monkey see monkey do'. When I saw Zevon didi tumbling through the window of the small house, i soon followed suit and later, so did Kayden didi! I also learnt really quickly how to get onto the red plastic rocking horse, and galloped madly away!! kekekee :) check out the pics below!

Since yeye retired, i've got one more person around to read cards and books to me, which is my all time fav activity now!! can never get enough of it and i am always bringing books/cards to yeye/nainai/mummy and signalling for them to read to me.

With all this 'intensive tuition', i can now recognise numbers 1 - 10. When i see the numbers 1,2,5 and 8, i will also scream out the numbers excitedly, albeit in mandarin (mummy is kinda disappointed i cant say any numbers in english yet).

I can also recognise certain letters, eg C, R, X and say these letters when shown the flashcards.

Colour recognition : I can identify most colours, eg blue, red, green, yellow, orange, pink, purple.

Mummy has been trying to reintroduce the GD flashcards (home made by mummy dearest). But cos she is working, she can only flash to me once a day when she comes back from work. Proud to say that I am making some progress, cos I can pick out the correct dot cards most of the time when mummy tests me.

Puzzles - I am getting better at fitting in shapes/blocks(mainly triangle, heart, cross, hexagon, square and circle) to their correct holes. I also say STAR very loudly when i see anything in the shape of a star.

Toto and the Hort Park

This wk, I've got to go out many many times!! Why? Cos yeye has just retired wef 8 August, and now there's 2 of them to torture at home! hyak hyak hyak..

Today, Yeye and Nai nai decided to bring me to Horticultural Park for an afternoon walk since it is just a stone's throw away at Alexandra area. Poor mummy was stuck in office slogging while the 4 of us (YES, papa included.. dont get me started on why he was free to come) got to go and play!

Caught you by surprise there with the heading didn't I?? How come the baby with the slowest motor milestones can walk already?? If you remember, I took my virgin steps nearly 1 mth ago on 17 July. Until today, I could walk pretty well holding on to someone's hand, but didnt have confidence to let go. Heh heh... now I still cant walk that well la, but I made mummy so thrilled today when I suddenly let go of my playskool walker and started trotting in an opposite direction! Think I must have gone about 1.5m before I sat down to crawl! For the rest of the night, I managed to walk longer distances, once even managing to make it from the living room to the computer area (which is about 3-4 metres) before losing my cool and sitting down!!

Mummy was so glad that she managed to catch me taking my first proper steps even though she has to work full time! gave me millions of hugs and kisses afterwards! :)

Mummy bought me the playskool walker many many mths ago when JL had sale - it was a cheap $21 after all the discounts! Original RP was $39.90 apparently. But cos I only got more steady on my feet in the recent months, mummy decided to let me try it again at gong gong's house today.

Amazingly, I managed to walk while pushing the walker in front of me, and can even do a u-turn/change direction/reverse while pushing the walker! Hmm.. all self taught ok!! :P But I did nearly fall a few times as I was reversing too enthusiastically and my feet cld not move as fast as the walker.

Hope I can learn to walk faster with this toy!

Afternote : TO be frank, I think I prefer the zoo a lot more.. Bird Park is nice but in the end, from what I can tell from Mummy's commentary on the way, it boils down to just 3 kinds of birds - small bird, medium bird and big bird. *yawn*

Mummy's birthday celebrations

Today is the day Mummy turns 28 and I turn 13 mths! As usual, Papa had planned Mummy's birthday celebrations well in advance, and had a whole string of surprises lined up for her.

We started off the day by going to Macdonalds for breakfast. I had my first taste of hotcakes!! YUMMMMY!!! just couldnt get enough of it! After breakfast, we headed to Henderson Waves for a morning walk (note : It wasn't actually morning, but more like noon by the time we got there! And pp ask why I am so dark...)

Knocked out from the heat and full morning feed (barely 20 min after stepping onto the walkway)

Awake and happy once we were on the Henderson Waves proper :

After our little morning/noon walk, Papa and mummy fetched me home for my lunch, then proceeded for the rest of Mummy's birthday celebration - yes, WITHOUT me! But with the kinda places Papa splashed out on - a 2.5 hr massage with chocolate fondue and open air jacuzzi at Changi village THE RETREAT spa, and yummy dinner at Prive at Keppel Bay Drive and finally a movie at vivo (Hancock - which according to mummy btw, is a totally sucky show), who can blame them for not being able to bring me along? Well, Happy Birthday Mummy!

Mummy has been breastfeeding me for more than a year now! As mummy is HOPING (i say hoping cos mummy is still very reluctant and cant bear to stop) to wean me off bm, she decided to intro FM to me just before her trip to bkk in june! As I was taking nan ha as supplementation till i was 3 wks old, mummy decided to put me on nan ha 2. I didnt really like the taste at first, but slowly took to it after a few tries. Mummy decided to switch to gain iq after 2 wks cos I had very watery stools with nan ha and got nappy rash. so far so good.. and now I am on 1 full FM feed a day, with the remaining 3 feeds being BM/latch on feeds.

hmmm... wonder when I will be on total FM.. at the rate mummy is dilly dallying ard, probably never!!

I am now 1 yr, and 3 wks old! I have also been jabbering a lot more these days, and trying to imitate actions and sounds of pp ard me (with varying degrees of success!).The new words I can say now are :

1) Wa2 Wa4 (chinese for doll) - when shown the flashcard of a doll
2) Bao2 Bao1 (chinese for baby) - when shown a picture of a baby
3) mao1 (chinese for cat) - when I see cats running around

Ye ye and nai nai insist I can also say ban1 ma2 (zebra) but mummy isnt too convinced cos I havent given her a live demo yet (but mainly cos yeye and nai nai have a kinda overactive imagination where I am concerned!)

Mummy is kinda worried that I can say more chinese words than english ones (can only manage 'up' and 'apple' to date in english, besides the usual papa, mama). She is also stressed that other babies seem to be able to speak a lot more than me tho we are all the same age! (its the fault of the forum she frequents!). Aiyo... stop worrying mummy!!

As I have been falling too frequently recently (cant even be left alone for 1 sec without getting a knock somewhere on my face/chin/lip), papa and mummy decided its time to buy me a new toy - a playpen!! They were quite lucky that robinsons had a promo for a square playpen - selling at only 89.90 (UP 139), and when they brought me to test it out b4 buying, I kept walking round and round in it and refused to get out!

My first haircut!

Its a fact (and mummy, pls accept it!) - I have not much hair! Despite this, Mummy decided it was time to bring me for a hair cut cos the few strands of hair I have are all too long and keep poking me in the eyes and neck!

Mummy, being the bargain queen that she is, managed to get her paws (oops.. hands!!) on a cutout that basically entitles babies born in may and June to get a free haircut (worth $18!!). After spending ages persuading papa to allow me to go for a haircut ( cos papa's fav nighttime hobby is to come home after work and sniff and play with my hair), mummy and papa brought me to Forum Toysrus Childrens' League to have my very first haircut!

No pictures to share though.. cos unfortunately, silly mummy forgot to bring a camera , so all pictures and videos are still in papa and mummy's camera waiting to be uploaded. The results of the haircut were disastrous, not because I was badly behaved (to the contrary, I was quite an angel during the haircut as I was amazed by the balloons and toys that the nice aunty kept offering me!), but probably because the skills of the aunty who cut my hair left much to be desired. As papa put it, my hair looked like a dog had bitten bits of it off haphazardly!!

As such, I was marched off the next day to have my hair trimmed by Ma2 Ma4. Cos the aunty spoiled my hair, Ma2 Ma4 had no choice but to cut my fringe pretty short. Papa thot I looked really toot but everyone else thought it made me look really cute!! :) What do you think?

Today we went for a family photoshoot at Foto U! This was part of yeye's bday present cos gu1 ma1 and mummy wanted to get a nice family portrait blown up to commemorate yeye's 60th bday!

Uncle Benjamin was real patient in trying to make me laugh, but unfortunately I wasnt in too good a mood. Still, the photos didnt turn out too bad! Mummy is really tempted to bring me for an individual one in a few mths time.

I finally turn 1! to those who are reading, hey that means I am no longer a BABY but have crossed officially into TODDLERHOOD!!! hyak hyak hyak... (papa says that one cant be called a toddler if he/she cant even stand, not to mention TODDLE, but that's a separate story altogether)

To celebrate my 1st birthday, I had 2 small gatherings. mummy was too tired to organise a big bash like the one I had for full mth celebration. the 1st gathering was on 8 June with Gong Gong and Ma Ma and mummy's relatives at River View Hotel, and the 2nd one was on 15 June, just 1 day b4 I officially turned 1!

Motor skills :
- Crawling on all 4s (FINALLY!! can u believe I only discovered my passport to unlimited snooping into forbidden crevices and nooks and crannies at the grand age of 11+ mths?? is that delayed motor skills or what? mummy believes its due to my big fat butt. hmm... )
- standing unsupported (my best record was a whopping 10 sec!! woo hoo!!)
- follows commands (wave/flying kiss/kiss mummy on command, stroke mummy's hair when asked to, knows actions to songs eg twinkle twinkle little star, sits/stands/lie down on command - of cos this depends on my mood!

Verbal :
- says papa and mama to the correct pp
- says UP when I want to be carried
- says apple when i am shown a picture of the fruit or when i see the fruit at fruit stalls
- make a valiant attempt to vocalise baby when i see my fav flash card of a baby holding a ball - instead of beh-bee, i say BA BE
- pretends to bark like a dog when I see a picture of a dog/doggy stuffed toy

Others :
- recognises and picks out correctly flash cards like car, watch, flower, dog, cat, clock, sea horse, and many more

Today we went to Fidgets as Mummy is on urgent leave with yeh yeh being hospitalised with a peritonsillar abscess (OUCH!). We went with Aunty Jessica and baby Shannen who stay just 2 blocks away.

For $8 per entry and unlimited playtime, it was sure worth the money cos we stayed there the whole afternoon!

Today mummy brought me to Gogobambini ( a indoor playground for kids with cafe and stuff - check out website : http://www.gogobambini.com/index.php ) to meet her friends from SMH forum! Thanks to Aunty Flo aka bcube who gave us a lift to the ulu (only cos mummy doesnt drive!) dempsey area! :)

from L--> R : Pretty Renee mei mei, ME!, and Ems mei mei (who can already crawl and stand with support btw!) all looking up entranced by Aunty Gillian's(aka Yolksac!)funny noises and antics.

8 mths old and counting!

Today, I am 8 mths old!

Mummy cant believe how fast I have grown from a puny 2.8kg little bundle of joy, to a 9kg big bundle!

What i can do so far :

- standing with support
- sitting without support
- crawling backwards
- rolling like a barrel and flipping like a roti prata
- babbling papa, mama, ne ne
- apparently said 'bao4 bao4' and stuck my arms up to be carried (mummy isnt too sure this is considered a word since i have not repeated that on cue)
- can walk in all directions in walker except forwards (DUH!!)
- look towards appropriate objects/pp when asked where they are
- throw tantrums!! (even managed to scare mummy once!)
- hmm... and a lot more which mummy cant seem to recall liao :P

I have also started to display significant separation anxiety from mummy, and only want mummy to carry esp towards the evenings, or when I am tired or hungry. Mummy is only too pleased to oblige most of the time as it is really an ego boost for her!

I have also tried and tasted quite a lot of food so far. Must really thank mummy for making the effort to puree food for me over the weekends as she doesnt really believe in giving me bottled purees unless there is no choice- eg overseas.

What I love to eat :
Apple, pear, nectarine, papaya, banana, prune, sweet potato, pumpkin, HT oatmeal/barley/brown rice cereal, baby bites (carrot flavoured - courtesy of aunty eileen!) and of cos, Mummy's milk!

What I HATEEEEE... :
potato, sweet peas, heinz organic rice cereal, plain porridge (bleagh..),spinach,

Food I dont care about but will still eat with a yawn :
avocado, egg yolk, carrot, jar food (tried Gerber prunes, HT oatmeal/banana/peach, HT apple/sweet potato so far), tofu, corn, asparagus, broccoli, water!

My first CNY!

Mummy hasnt updated my blog for ages cos she hasnt been too well.. but because she loves me so much and is afraid she will forget all the precious memories of my babyhood, she has decided to pull up her socks and start updating again!

It is my very first Chinese New year, and mummy and papa are thrilled cos they can 'recoup' some losses! In her usual shopaholic way, Ma Ma bought 5 new pretty outfits, and 3 sweet head bands from mothercare (so that relatives wont keep asking if i am boy or girl!) for me in preparation for CNY! Aren't I lucky??

Mummy was very worried about my motor milestones.. not that I am slow, but apparently some babies in the july motherhood thread can already stand and crawl though they are only 6+ mths!

Hence, it was to mummy's great relief that I started to be more steady while standing.. and am able to sit properly without support.

This is my current fav position by the window.. can watch the world go by below, and feel the wind in my face.. what's not to like? :)

Mummy is obsessed with me not looking like a boy, and makes sure pp do not have any excuses to ask if i am a boy! thus, she keeps trying to make me wear hats (which i hate), headbands (which i also do not like), and pink stuff (well, cant possibly protest against that YET).

Ma ma bought me my first headband from kiddy palace b4 i was born.. cost 9 freaking dollars (in mummy's words).. so mummy was determined to squeeze my big head in by hook or by crook! first, mummy placed it around my FP drums to enlarge it. next, although the circumference of the stretched headband is smaller than my head, papa decided to just yank it onto my head. i cried bloody murder of cos, but soon got distracted by my toys!

Here is the result of the rather disastrous experiment that left quite a mark on my head - papa's fault!

Go away and leave my FP drums alone! (papa cant believe it cost yeye and nainai 49 bucks! and is even more incredulous that they actually forked out so much for such a simple toy!)

TOday mummy decided to give me some porridge as a change cos she thinks that my constipation is due to the HT cereal I am taking.

Mummy has gotten me a new hat from Old Navy.. only $4 after shipping! thats why she always shops online and most of my clothes are from overseas sprees (mummy says i only wear IMPORTED clothes - as if I am such a pampered baby.. but the truth is that these clothes are much cheaper and nicer than those from stores in sg!).

Nice?? Mummy carried me to the mirror to look at myself and I was soo captivated by my reflection that I squealed in joy and forgot that I actually do not like things to be on my head (this includes headbands, caps, any form of headgear)!

Notice my mouth? That's apparently my fav expression for the month - making my mouth look like it is one straight line.. mummy associates it with the fact that I am teething!

Today mummy finally decided to give me my first taste of cereal (Healthy Times Brown rice cereal). Have waited a LOOOONG time.. and after much procrastinating on mummy's part + urging on papa's part, I finally got to eat something else other than milk at 5 mths 1 wk old!! Mummy was feeling guilty about not waiting till I am 6 mths before giving me my cereal, but gave in in the end cos I was showing all the signs of readiness for weaning (extreme interest in what papa/mummy are eating, decreased milk intake, ability to sit with minimal support).

anyway, the cereal was YUMMYYYY!!!! couldnt wait for mummy to scoop up the cereal and shovel it in.. so I decided to yell when she was slow!! Mummy was very scared that I would gag cos i kept lunging at the spoon and taking hold of the entire spoon. however, mummy gave me only 5-6 small spoons cos it is my 1st time eating cereal.. where got enough?? Of course, I showed my displeasure by screaming even louder when it finished.. hehe :P mummy was most pleased to see that I didnt push the food out with my tongue.. another sign that she didnt start me on cereal too early.

plan is to continue me on cereal till I am 6 mths old, then slowly intro vegs and fruits.

What wonderful parents I have!! Fancy being brought overseas at the tender age of 4 months! That's why I was sooo excited when I heard that mummy is making me a passport.. cos why else would I need a passport for?? (see.. clever baby knows how to make clever associations hehehe)

I was absolutely thrilled to hear that we were headed for Batam for a 4D3N stay at Batam View Beach Resort. Apparently mummy had a big headache trying to pack my things.. had to bring my diapers (she took 30 pieces along!), lots of clothes, my swimming float, my new swimming costume, toys, bottles, sterilising tablets, breast pump, ice packs, milk bags, etc etc.. in the end, Papa, mummy, yeye and nai nai shared 1 cabin luggage, while my belongings were stuffed into another BIG luggage! imagine that!

Day 1 ( 10 Oct)

Today is incidentally Papa and Mummy's 2nd wedding anniversary!! To think that last year this time they had no idea I was coming along to wreck their lives yet hyak hyak hyak.. well well, HAPPY 2nd ANNIVERSARY mummy and papa!!

unfortunately, poor mummy is sick today. she has fever and a bad throat.. She caught this bad bug from me. Sorry mummy.. but it ain't my fault you know.. I caught it from Uncle KS!! But thanks to mummy's liquid gold, my fever subsided within a day and I was fit as a fiddle the next day!

Here I am having a chat with Grandpa Zhou before we board the ferry for Batam. Yeye as usual is busy making sure the environment is conducive enough for me to sleep!

To mummy's relief, I sleep through the bumpy ferry ride. And before I know it, tadah... we are already at Batam!

As mummy and papa are too giam to fork out extra cash for a baby cot, they have planned to make me sleep on a small sofa next to the bed. Here I am frolicking happily before bedtime! Doesnt my new bed look cozy enough?

Day 2 (11 Oct)

Mummy decides to bring me to dip my toes in the pool..

And to her surprise, I actually smiled! (alas, mummy failed to capture it on cam..) next step moving forward (moving forward?? what does that mean?? must be mummy writing too many papers and emails at work la..) would be to bring me for a proper dip in the pool!

Swimming's fun!!! Too bad I was just recovering from flu, so I was only allowed to stay in the water for 10min.. Mummy has promised to bring me swimming again soon though.. I really really hope she keeps her promise!

Day 3 (12 Oct)

We decide to go explore the rest of Batam.. went to Batam Mega Mall for some shopping. Papa and mummy only managed to buy medicines for me (bisolvon) and antibiotics for mummy since she was still having fever. I was also starting to have a bad cough again so we headed back to the hotel after lunch to rest some more. Mummy tried to feed me during lunch and got stared at by the waitresses!! poor mummy felt so paiseh!

Day 4 (13 Oct)

Our last day in the hotel...

Firstly, we took pictures on our balcony where there were pretty bougainvillae plants!

We had a family outing to Sentosa today! So exciting cos this is theoretically my first trip overseas (the body of water between Sg and sentosa also considered the sea right..)!

Papa says mummy really spends money like water.. mummy's defence is that she loves me a lot and wants the best for me that she can afford!

As evidence of how much she 'loves' me.. She went and ordered a new play mat for me!! its called the sweetbear bumper mat (from smallsmallworld on SMH forum).. and it costs a whopping $120 (original $169 so to mummy that's a GOOD deal!). Jiu Jiu partially sponsored this with his $88 angbao for my full month.. and mummy topped up the rest!

Today Aunty E and Rox visited me at home! Rox is a very very punctual baby cos she was born on her EDD! It was a real nice day cos Aunty E and mummy munched on their subway sandwiches while me and rox played.. well, played SEPARATELY at least - with rox in my favorite bouncer being mesmerized by the mobile and me stuck in my boring old cot.

Mummy mummy why did you pull my pants so high?? I look so TOOT! This photo isnt nice!! I want it taken off my blog!
And nobody would guess that rox is just 2.5 wks younger than me boo hoo hoo..(makes me wanna go on a diet.. no more mummy's milk for me!! :(

Today I visited Heng Heng for the first time since he was born. He is 2 mths younger than me and Aunty Wan Sian gave birth to him on August 13 at KKWCH. he is sooo different from me - has a lot more hair, more well behaved, and much fairer, eyes are bigger, longer eyelashes.. the list goes on!!

Huh? You must be wondering how this is relevant to MY blog since I am obviously a June baby! well, mummy may have delivered in June, but she has been chatting in the July MTB thread in SMH forum since she was 7wks pregnant with moi! There have been 1-2 previous outings with the July mummies when we were all in our mummy's tum tums and some of mummy's closest friends now are from the forum, like Aunty R and Aunty E!

This time's outing was at Great World City, Say Cheezecake cafe! Attendance was great and I got to meet abt 20 other babies and mummies! This was also mummy's first time ever breastfeedng me in public - she said she got the courage to do so only cos she was surrounded by Aunty Yolksac, Aunty Cheok and Aunty lilac who were also feeding my little friends! Papa was the only thorn amongst the roses (or rather, the only grown up thorn, there were plenty of tiny thorns ard though) and the official photographer and videoman for the day!

Ye ye and nai nai say that my papa also slept like this when he was a baby.. with the left hand under the head.

Mostest favorite sleeping position : Lying on papa/mummy so that I can hear their heartbeat and breathing and feel safe and secure!

To the contrary, I DO NOT like sleeping in yao lan. Mummy says its because I am very kpo.. wanna see the surroundings, and being in a yao lan doesnt allow me to do that. Papa says that I am acting cute by sleeping with my hands on the side of my face..

Mummy used to cuddle me to sleep in this exact V position. This is also how I fall asleep in my favorite MIM sling..

Papa has christened this position as "Nearly- headless - to", after the famous ghost in Harry Potter Nearly Headless Nick. Bo liao hor??

Today is the official launch of my very own blog! (auspicious date.. 090907)

People always ask my papa why he gave me such a weird nickname. Even the labour ward nurses had a great laugh when they heard papa announcing that toto was born soon after mummy successfully delivered me! Apparently my conception was as unexpected and as rare an occurence as striking toto.. so I was given the very very cute nickname TOTO!! yeye and nainai call me duo1 duo1.. while papa has given me a whole array of other nicknames such as poketo, totito, xiangto, blah blah blah. but dunno why ma4ma4 and gonggong dont seem to like the nickname leh..

ANYWAY... mummy has painstakingly set up this blog to commemorate my milestones and funny/sad/angry/tantrum-throwing moments in life.. and because of that (and also cos my mummy gives me yummylicious milk milk), I LOVE MY MUMMY SOOO!!!

ok ok.. enough pictures already!! Now get this thing off my head!!

Because mummy is sick and tired of pp proclaiming that I am a boy boy (even when I am dressed from head to toe in varying shades of pink), she decided to make me wear a headband one fine day. To her disappointment, I screamed the house down the moment the pretty white headband ma4 ma4 bought from Kiddy palace (that cost 9.90 by the way) touched my head. Everyone came to the conclusion that I hate wearing headbands/caps/hats/anything that touches my head (ma4 ma4 says I very gou tak - thats petty in teochew).

Looks like they will have to try alternative means to make me look like a girl girl... ma4 ma4 waiting eagerly for my hair to grow so that she can pin on the 5 pairs of hair clips she bought for me .. little does she know that I plan to scream even louder if they dare to put anything on my head! hyak hyak hyak hyak...

Why is mummy smiling so happily for? Maybe she is amused at how contrasting we look when she carries me close to her.. milo vs horlicks (no prizes guessing who is what..)

Everyone (literally EVERYONE as in 100%) who sees me on the streets will do the following without fail :

1) smile and say how cute I am (true what!)

2) ask mummy/nai nai/whoever's carrying me - Boy ah?

Note.. its Boy ah? as in assume I am a boy cos its apparently soo obvious.. and not ' Boy or girl ah?'.. the other day, even a korkor abt 5 yrs old pointed at me and said to his nai nai " didi"... BOOHOOHOO...

Who is my 'lao tai po'? This is actually my great great grand mother, who is already 103 yrs old! The name lao tai po came abt when my mummy made a fool of herself at the dinner table one day when I was still inside her tummy. Ye ye and nai nai were discussing what I should call papa's tai po, so mummy unwittingly blurted out - just add a lao in front lor.. lao tai po! (since i am one generation down, so teochews usually just add a 'lao' infront of the term) yeye, nainai and papa laugh until wanna die. oooh and the correct term to use is actually ' xuan2 zu2 mu3' in chinese.

today mummy and papa brought me to meet my great-great-grand ma in person at imperial treasures taka for lunch. She was so happy to finally get to see me and kept talking to me in cantonese which I catch no ball. Nai nai said that she is wishing that I will be a good girl and be a healthy baby. Papa didnt manage to take a picture of me with her though.. so wasted. Hope I will get to see her again this coming CNY when I will be 7 mths old!

Visit to Gong Gong and Ma Ma's house

Nai Nai says its a tradition that I have to visit Gong Gong and Ma Ma's house on my full mth.. must bring red eggs and an ang bao.. in return, I get a red packet from Ma Ma to bless me to become a good and healthy baby! So worth it hor? (esp since the ang bao comes out of Mummy and papa's pocket hehe..)

Hmm.. jiu jiu still looks so uncomfortable carrying me hor.. you can tell this by his perfectly straight arm and ramrod straight sitting posture! I am already more than a mth old.. and perfectly well behaved what! See ye ye laughing at him? hehehe... :) See gong gong.. steady la! Only using one hand to carry me.. and I feel so comfy!

My mummy and papa's jing1 xin1 jie2 zhuo4.. the sylvanian family house/nursery that they built when I was 34 weeks old and still in mummy's tum tum! cute eh?

Believe it or not, this is the only proper family photo taken on my full mth celebration! I didnt get any pics taken alone with papa,mummy, yeye or nai nai cos the whole day just sped past in a blur!! well.. mummy and papa very clever lor.. went and invited 70++ pp to our small 4 room hdb flat!! of cos busy la!

Gong gong's 1st time with me!

Mummy was very happy today as it is the 1st time Gong Gong is seeing me since I was born! GOng GOng was quite sick before I was born and required admission and surgery. Now he is better and when he saw me for the 1st time, he grinned from ear to ear like a CHeshire cat!! Mummy says she never saw him look so happy before hehe.. wow I didnt know I'm so cute wor! :)

One week old only.. and hospitalised

Me at 1 wk old, sleeping in my (ex) favorite pink bouncer.. a gift from lao-ee and uncle. note my sleeping position.. papa calls it the tou2 xiang2 (surrender) position!

On 21 June 2007, Mummy and papa brought me to the polyclinic for my jaundice checks as scheduled.. while there, mummy noticed that my 4 limbs were jerking when i was fast asleep. this happened several times and alarmed papa and mummy. WHen I was brought in to see the dr, the dr also was kinda worried and referred us to the A&E for ? seizures/fits. Mummy was sooo worried she broke down and cried and cried. After discussion with yeye, nainai and papa, they decided to watch me at home first, as everyone except mummy thought that it was just startling which is common in newborns. The next day however, the jerks continued and were more marked.. spookily enough, the jerks only appeared when we stepped into Queenstown polyclinic. So scary!! In the end, papa and mummy decided to just bring me for a thorough check at NUH for peace of mind.

SOO.. I was readmitted into NUH barely 1 wk after i was discharged. Mummy very heart pain cos I was poked 4 times in a day - first time at polyclinic for jaundice, 2nd time at A&E for glucose level, 3rd and 4th time in ward 48 (waa this was PAINFUL man.. the HO poked my veins on my hand cos had to check my FBC, electrolytes,etc.. and she MISSED the 1st time!! mummy so angry!) luckily the blood tests came back normal.. except for my FBC which showed a high hematocrit, meaning that I was dehydrated. Dr advised mummy to supplement with some FM and pump out her BM to feed me so that I can wash out the bilirubin faster.. and mummy had no choice but to say ok. So that was the 1st time I tasted FM.. on 22/6/07.. eee.. I spit it all out the 1st time I tried.. not as nice as mummy's milk!! Mummy cried even harder when she saw me struggling and rejecting the FM cos she said she feels guilty for not being able to provide me all the BM I need. But the 2nd time onwards, I was ok liao!! THat day was also the 1st time mummy managed to pump out some milk.. and she was happy and proud of that!

Next day, I was seen by the paediatric neurologist and Dr Shek.. apparently my diagnosis was benign sleep myoclonus- a syndrome commonly seen in newborns. Mummy and papa were advised to swaddle me tightly and it should pass in no time. PHEW!!! Was promptly discharged home on 23 June 07 to mummy's relief.

I finally arrive - my birth story!

Mummy and Papa say that I was always too anxious to see the world. From wk 19, I was triggering off painful BH and mummy had to take adalat to keep me in until term. And despite my mummy telling me again and again to come out on 26 June (papa and yeye counted the ba zhi and said this was a good date), I was naughty and came chonging out on 16 June! (hence ruining yeye and nainai's genting trip!).

Here is mummy's super duper chiong hei birth story!

16 june 2007

2am- went to bed as usual after talking nonsense with yolksac on forum (heheh)

4.45am- woke up with some painful BH (or what i thot were BH).. felt urge to poo so went to the toilet but nothing came out.

5.30am - cldnt sleep at all since BH were going on and on.. all were painful. but just wrote them off as BH/false labour since the interval was not decreasing.. kept having urge to poo again

5.45am- suddenly felt pantiliner very wet- went toilet and found pink show and whole liner soaked. decided it might be labour with burst waterbag and woke hb up.

6am- went to shower quickly (bad decision- contractions intensified to 1 in 5min in the toilet.. had to bathe REALLY REALLY fast) and packed the rest of my hosp bag. walked with hb slowly to main rd to get cab (refused to call a cab.. wanted to walk more so that my labour wld be shorter hehe)

6.30am - reached NUH. Lots of amniotic fluid gushed out the moment i lay down on the hosp bed. Checked by dr on call- already 5cm dilated to my horror!! was immediately given fleet enema.

6.45am - contractions got super painful after the enema.. was in tears and nearly biting off hb's hand. begged for epidural and bit into a towel with each contraction to tahan the pain

7.20am- anesthetist finally arrived.. just b4 he poked me, i suddenly felt like something was coming out!! Dr did VE again, and i was already 8cm dilated!!! decided to have the epidural anyway as the pain was just tooo bad to bear.

7.30am - epidural in.. WA.. complete BLISS man.. no pain at all!!!

10am - cervix 10cm dilated. epidural was tailed off so that i cld have the sensation to push while waiting for bb's head to descend more

10.50am - felt contractions again and urge to bear down. started to push.

11am- gyne arrived.. pushed a few more times and darling Xing-Yi aka TOTO finally popped out weighing in at 2.8kg!!!
